The boy band pledges an “edgier” sound for their new tour, as details of dates and tickets are revealed.Boy band One Direction have announced a world stadium tour scheduled for 2014.
It will be called Where We Are and will see the group play top venues across the UK, Ireland and South America, with more countries expected to be added.
The announcement was made at London’s Wembley Stadium, which will host the band for one of five dates located on home soil.
Other venues include the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, the Stadium of Light in Sunderland, Murrayfield in Edinburgh and Dublin’s Croke Park.
The group of five – Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson – are currently in the middle of their Take Me Home tour but promised a new spectacle next year.
We were able to gather this information from Styles “It’s going to be a much bigger show, we want to make the stage bigger, there’s going to be some new songs.
“It’s going to be completely different – we can’t wait”
Payne said the band would showcase a different sound. “We’ve written a lot of the songs this time, we just made it a bit edgier, it just grows as we grow.”
The Take Me Home tour kicks off in Bogota, Colombia, on April 25 and travels to Peru, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil before reaching Ireland at the end of May 2014, then the UK.
The band’s devoted fans were told to expect “one big announcement” which fuelled days of intense online speculation.
The news was soon trending across the web, with more than a million posts being made on Twitter in 80 minutes according to the micro-blogging website.
The band shot to global fame despite coming only third in the 2010 series of The X Factor, topping the charts with songs such as What Makes You Beautiful and Live While We’re Young.
In the last year alone each band member has earned £5m, giving them a place in the Sunday Times Young Music Rich List.
Tickets for the dates in the UK and Ireland are on sale on May 25.
